Payton Caudle
View Full Profile →ON3 ranks Payton Caudle 24th in the class of 2028, among the 25 women's basketball recruits PrepRanks tracks for that class. PrepRanks ranks the Fayetteville guard from Arkansas 8th in the same group. Both numbers place Caudle among the same 25 recruits, so the gap between them is not a matter of one list being larger than the other.
The gap comes from what each system counts. ON3 rates Caudle 96.00 with four stars and still ranks the shooting guard near the bottom of its group, and no other service gives a numeric rating. PrepRanks handles that shortage with a rule: when fewer than two services publish a rating, the Service Average is the composite star rating times ten. Four stars becomes 40 of 50 points, and the remaining components decide the rest of the score.
Service ratings and ranks
ON3 is the only service with a rating and a national rank for Caudle. It rates the guard 96.00, gives four stars, and ranks Caudle 24th nationally, 11th among shooting guards and second in Arkansas. ESPN shows three stars and a scouts grade of 93, lists no national rank, and says no evaluation is available. 247Sports and Rivals have no entry.
| Service | Rating | Stars | National rank | Position rank | State rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ON3 | 96.00 | 4 | 24 | 11 | 2 |
| ESPN | Scouts grade 93 | 3 | Unranked | N/A | N/A |
| 247Sports | N/A | N/A | Unranked | Unranked | Unranked |
| Rivals | N/A | N/A | Unranked | Unranked | Unranked |
A 96.00 rating and a rank of 24th out of 25 sit in different places on ON3's own page. The data does not explain why, and none of the services in the data publishes a scouting report. The consensus ranking, which is built from ON3's data, repeats the same three numbers: 24th nationally, 11th at the position and second in the state.
How the Service Average is calculated
The PrepRanks score weights the four services' ratings, with ON3 counting most, but only when at least two of them publish a rating. Caudle has one. The score therefore skips the weighting and uses the four-star composite rating, which gives a Service Average of 40.00, or 80 percent of the maximum.
That rule works against Caudle. A weighted average built on a 96.00 rating alone would sit close to the top of the 50-point range, and the fallback lands well below it. The fallback gives Caudle fewer points than a weighted average of ON3's 96.00 alone would.
What lifts the score
| Component | Score | Max |
|---|---|---|
| Service Average | 40.00 | 50 |
| Recruiting Reality | 17.00 | 25 |
| • Offer Count | 13.00 | 15 |
| • Offer Quality | 4.00 | 10 |
| Momentum | 10.00 | 20 |
| Position Scarcity | 4.00 | 10 |
| Stability | 2.50 | 5 |
| Elite Recognition | 7.00 | 10 |
| Total | 80.50 | 100 |
Two parts do most of the lifting. Caudle has 18 scholarship offers listed, and the count earns 13.00 of 15 points. The quality half of the same component earns 4.00 of 10. Offer quality compares an offer list against a set of top women's basketball programs, so a long list scores low when few of the offers come from that set. The data does not list which schools have offered, so it cannot say which offers are missing from the set.
Elite Recognition is the other lift. It is 7 of 10, the points the formula awards for a consensus national rank inside the top 25. In a group of 25 players, every recruit with a consensus rank earns at least that much, so the bonus separates the top 10 from everyone else and nobody from the bottom of the list.
The other parts are neutral or low. Momentum is scored from the rank changes the services report, and with nothing to measure the formula returns the midpoint, which is 10.00 of 20. ON3 lists no rank change for Caudle. Position Scarcity is 4 of 10. The component pays more at positions with fewer players in the class, and shooting guard is a crowded one. Stability is 2.50 of 5. It measures how closely the services agree on a national rank, and only ON3 publishes one, so there is little for the services to agree or disagree about.
ESPN's three stars sit one below ON3's four. The composite star rating, which feeds the Service Average, is four. If a second service published a rating, the weighted average would replace the fallback, and the Service Average would be calculated from the ratings themselves.
PrepRanks and ON3 ranks compared
The score puts Caudle 8th in the class of 2028, fourth among shooting guards and first among Arkansas recruits. ON3 puts the guard 24th, 11th at the position and second in the state. The state comparison is the closest of the three: one spot apart, where the national ranks and the position ranks sit much further apart.
Ranks in a group this small are sensitive. The class of 2028 has 25 women's basketball recruits in the PrepRanks data, so a small difference in score separates one rank from the next, and recruits tied on score share a rank. The model's view of Caudle is a score of 80.50 and four stars. The rank is what that score looks like against 24 others.
Reading the rank gap
A national rank gap usually reads as a disagreement about a player. In this class it reads more like a difference in what each system can see. ON3's rank is one service's ordering of a short list. The PrepRanks rank is a blend of ratings, offers, momentum and position supply, and for Caudle most of those inputs are sparse or neutral.
The useful comparison is component by component. The service half is a four-star composite. The market half is 18 offers with a quality score of 4 of 10. The movement half is neutral. A reader who wants to know where Caudle stands should weigh those three together before leaning on either rank.
WNBA draft odds
PrepRanks also computes basketball indexes for each recruit. Caudle's Height Advantage Index is 65, above the 50 that marks the average for the position, and the guard is listed at 6 feet. The Physical Profile Score is 59, Position Versatility is 50 and the Guard Skills Premium is 85. The WNBA draft probability is 88 out of 100, which falls in the Elite Prospect band on the draft tracker.
That probability uses service rankings, the PrepRanks rank, physical measures and offers from top programs, so it shares the thin inputs behind the score. It describes the model's view of draft potential, not a timeline, and WNBA players cannot be drafted straight out of high school. A high number for a recruit in the class of 2028 says how the model reads the rank and the offer list today.
Caudle at Fayetteville
MaxPreps lists Caudle as a junior wearing number 30 for Fayetteville, a 6-foot guard and forward. The athlete page shows varsity roster entries for 2024-25 and 2026-27, and MaxPreps has Caudle tagged in photo galleries from the 2024-25 season, including the AAA 6A state final against Northside on March 15, 2025. The listings here do not include Caudle's points, rebounds or assists, so this article does not describe how Caudle scores or defends.
The team record for 2025-26 is on the schedule page. Fayetteville finished 11-11 overall and 4-6 in the 6A West, sixth in the conference. The Bulldogs went 5-3 at home and 4-7 on the road, scoring 1,240 points and allowing 1,198, and MaxPreps had them 17th in Arkansas. They beat Aledo 43-42 at a December tournament, then lost 65-60 to Duncanville two days later.
The postseason was short. Fayetteville beat Jonesboro 56-30 on March 4, 2026, then lost 57-48 to North Little Rock in the quarterfinal on March 6. North Little Rock had also beaten Fayetteville 50-48 in December. That is the most recent game on Caudle's athlete page, and it is the one a reader can still watch.
Limits of the data
The data holds no game statistics, no scouting report from any service, and no commitment. Caudle is uncommitted, and the Market Value Index, which measures how hard programs are chasing a player, is 72. The case for the higher PrepRanks rank is the 18 offers and a four-star composite. The case for ON3's lower rank is that it is the only service with a national ranking for Caudle.
On ON3's list, Caudle is 24th of 25 with a 96.00 rating. In the PrepRanks data, Caudle is 8th of 25 and first in Arkansas. Neither list includes a word of evaluation.
