Outside services rank Florida's 2027 football class among the best in the country, and the names behind that ranking are mostly linemen. PrepRanks tracks 50 Florida commits across the 2026, 2027 and 2028 classes, and its score for them is led by two five-stars: interior lineman Maxwell Hiller at 99.44 and receiver Easton Royal at 97.34. The next commit on the list scores 89.50.

That is the shape of the class in our data: two commits at the top, then a long run of four-stars separated by small amounts. The sections below cover what the outside rankings say, who sits in each tier, and what the position and state counts show.

What the outside rankings say

Florida's rank depends on who is counting and when. On June 4, 2026, WCJB reported that "The Gators stand fifth in the 2027 national recruiting rankings with these two additions," after four-star offensive tackle Kennedee Jackson and four-star defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes committed. Tookes was the 19th commitment in the class. A day later, Sports Illustrated counted three-star athlete Kamarion Johnson as the 21st commitment and said the class was "ranked as high as third nationally" in the 247Sports Composite.

Those are two different rankings from consecutive days, and neither is a PrepRanks number. They agree on one thing: head coach Jon Sumrall's staff had the 2027 class near the top of the country by early June. As of October 16, 2026, the PrepRanks data lists 26 Florida commits in the 2027 class, up from 21 when Johnson committed.

Top of the class

Hiller and Royal are the only two five-stars Florida has, and no other commit scores within seven points of Royal. Hiller is from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and Royal from Brother Martin in Louisiana, so neither is a Florida product, and between them they account for the two highest scores in the class. Third on the list is cornerback CJ Bronaugh of Windermere at 89.50, a member of the 2026 class.

Hiller plays interior offensive line and Royal is a receiver, the position with the most Florida commits. They play on opposite sides of the line of scrimmage, so the top of the class does not point to one position group. Both are rated five stars by PrepRanks, and Hiller's score is the higher of the two, 99.44 against 97.34, on a scale where 100 is the cap. Neither score is a verdict on how a player will perform in college. Each is a reading of ratings, offers and rank movement as of today.

The table shows the five highest-scoring 2027 commits. Everyone after the first two is a four-star, and the scores fall from 83.25 to 81.28 across the next three. Another 2027 commit, offensive tackle Kennedee Jackson, is not on our top 15 list. 247Sports ranks him the No. 16 offensive tackle and No. 122 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to WCJB.

Position mix

WCJB describes Florida's offensive line commits as "giving the Gators an offensive line group that is shaping up to be one of the best in the country for that cycle." The PrepRanks counts fit part of that. Florida has six tackles and four interior linemen across the three classes, and three of the five highest 2027 scores belong to linemen: Hiller, Hutcheson and Miller. The same coverage names Jackson as a fourth.

The defensive backfield is the second-largest unit: 6 cornerbacks and 5 safeties make 11 players in the secondary, more than the 10 on the offensive line. The largest position group is not the line, though. Receiver has 8 commits, more than any other position. Cornerback, offensive tackle and defensive line have 6 each, safety has 5, and quarterback has 2. Running back, long snapper, kicker and athlete have 1 each. A class judged on its line would miss that receivers outnumber every other group by two.

Where the commits come from

Florida's commits come from 20 states. Home-state loyalty is 39.70 percent: 22 of the 50 commits are Floridians, with Georgia next at 7, Alabama at 4 and Texas at 3. The two highest scores in the class come from Pennsylvania and Louisiana, which is why the home-state share and the quality of the class do not move together.

The schools that supplied the most commits are spread thin. Booker T Washington in Tuskegee, Alabama, has 2, and no other school has more than 1. That includes American Heritage, IMG Academy and Chaminade-Madonna in Florida. The in-state group is large and has no single feeder.

The 2026 and 2028 commits

The 2027 class is not the whole list. Four of the top 15 scores belong to the 2026 class: Bronaugh at 89.50, receiver Davian Groce of Lone Star in Texas at 86.75, edge rusher KJ Ford of Duncanville in Texas at 83.28, and defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy of Tupelo in Mississippi at 81.33. Groce is the second-highest 2026 score, and he sits fourth on the full list.

The fifth-highest score on the list belongs to a class that has not started its senior season. Offensive tackle Samuel Bailey of Jemison, Alabama, is one of 3 commits from the class of 2028 and scores 84.93, higher than any 2027 commit except Hiller and Royal. Bailey is a four-star. Hutcheson, the next 2027 commit, scores 83.25.

That means the three-class list is closer to a roster plan than a class ranking. Twenty-four of the 50 tracked commits sit outside the 2027 class.

How the whole class scores

Across all 50 commits, the average PrepRanks score is 76.0 out of 100 and the average star rating is 3.74. The star counts are 2 five-stars, 22 four-stars, 25 three-stars and 1 two-star. The class score, which weights each commit instead of counting heads, is 532. The methodology page explains how the score is built.

Half the class is rated three stars, so the average is carried by the 24 players at four and five stars. That is consistent with the 2027 view in the coverage: a class near the top of national rankings that still has depth at three stars behind the headliners.

Counterpoint

The totals above mix three classes. Twenty-one of the 50 commits belong to 2026 and 3 to 2028, so the 76.0 average and the 532 class score do not measure the 2027 group by itself, and they are the numbers that would matter for a comparison with other schools. Positions and states are counted the same way. The outside rankings also date from early June, before five more players committed. A reader comparing Florida with another program should look at the 2027 commits alone.

The two-tier shape is also partly a feature of the formula. Scores for the top two include service ratings that are high for five-stars, and the points drop off steeply once a player is a four-star, so a class of strong four-stars looks flat even when it is highly regarded. Florida's staff and the outside services clearly like the group. The PrepRanks scores say that two players separate from it.

Quarterback and the rest of 2027

Quarterback Davin Davidson of Cardinal Mooney is the only quarterback in the 2027 group on our top 15, at 81.89. Running back Andrew Beard of Prince Avenue Christian scores 81.60, tight end Tommy Douglas of Hun School 80.93 and receiver Elias Pearl of Port Charlotte 80.41. These are the offensive skill players in the top 15, all four-stars, and none of them in the top two tiers.

One more fact from the outside coverage belongs in the record. Before the current group formed, Florida's lone 2027 commitment was four-star athlete Tamond Collins, who decommitted, according to Sports Illustrated in December 2025. The class went from one name that was reconsidering to 26 commits in about ten months.
